THE HISTORY
The School House was built in 1878 as a school for the children of Port Douglas as its population rapidly grew with the discovery of gold on the tablelands. By the late 1950's the population of the town had dwindled and the school closed in 1962. It has since become the iconic landmark property of Port Douglas as the oldest building in North Queensland and it is still on its original site. It is now a luxury character residence..
THE PROPERTY
The School House sits on a large 1181 sq m portion of land on Flagstaff Hill in the heart of Port Douglas' millionaire's row. The building was magnificently restored in 1989 with polished cypress floors and broad beech verandahs.
The property features a spacious open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area with towering cathedral ceilings. The space opens out through sets of french doors onto wide verandahs. There are four bedrooms, two bathrooms, an office/study and much more. The property is an oasis of serenity in the heart of Port Douglas yet just a short stroll from both the main street with its shops, bars and restaurants and famous Four Mile Beach.
